I hope you had a good month of January.
Today I would like to talk about something that was inspired by the first module of our training: Science, Matter and Spirit.
Many people are eager to find a scientific proof or explanation for how or why family constellations work.
When we work with approaches or participate in a work that touches the unconscious, the spiritual – and we could say the sacred – in our modern world we are tempted to find explanations, in order to prove, that what we do, is not something weird and dubious, but that we have science backing it up, making it something serious and acceptable.
So we talk about epigenetics, morphogenetic fields and quantum physics. But when we honestly look at science, we become aware of the following. Science (and I think no matter which kind of science) does not teach an overall truth – although many of us tend to blindly believe that. Science is made of the discoveries and reasoning of certain people. But these discoveries and conclusions are revised over time and centuries, they change and become outdated. What we were taught years ago, is no longer valid, but might still be in the books we use in schools and universities. We have to be very careful of not making “holy cows” of scientific achievements.
Although I think, that it can be useful to have an idea of the scientific discoveries that back up the constellation approach, it feels more important to me to acknowledge that there is something bigger, something that holds us, something that we have to respect - maybe as an ultimate mystery. And ultimately, this is exactly the inner posture of a family constellation facilitator – to let go of trying to explain, to let go of trying to convince, to let go of trying to be scientific – and to be ready to go with what comes up and trust that we are held by this something bigger.
And here I would like to pass the word to Max Planck (1858 - 1947), who is considered the founder of Quantum Physics, and received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1918. In his speech about “The Nature of Matter” (1944) he said the following:
“As a man who has devoted his whole life to the most clear headed science, to the study of matter, I can tell you as a result of my research about atoms this much:
There is no matter as such.
All matter originates and exists only by virtue of a force which brings the particle of an atom to vibration and holds this most minute solar system of the atom together. We must assume behind this force the existence of a conscious and intelligent mind.
This mind is the matrix of all matter.”
Whoever or whatever this mind is, this consciousness, in a constellation we connect to it, we are in tune with it and we surrender to it. This is where healing starts - but what really happens in the end, remains a secret.
