First of all let me send you my best wishes for a new year full of everything that may support you in becoming more and more who you are truly meant to be.
Today I would like to talk about something that is strongly linked with the beginning of a new year: Good Resolutions.
At this time of the year many of us decide to stop smoking, to eat less, to change "bad" habits, to leave unhealthy relationships, to start with the gym and so on, and so on. But these good intentions often don’t last more than a couple of months.
Why does this happen? Thinking about it, what came to my mind was the word “expectations”. We expect that one simple date, this first of January, would make it easier to change what we were not able to change during the previous 365 days.
It is as if we expected this ONE DAY to be like an automatic switch and to create miracles.
Tell me - would you ask your friend or beloved to change a “bad” habit on the first of January? Would you go and tell them “Now it is time to change! From today on you go to the gym!”? How would they react? Do you think this would be viable? I believe that practically nobody would ever try this out, right?
But this is exactly what we do with ourselves. We tell ourselves “It is not ok how you are or how you behave – you have to change! Exactly on this first day of the new year!” And we wonder why it doesn’t work.
We forget that we are in a relationship with ourselves, as we are with anyone else around us. I don’t know who said it, but the truth is that the most important love story is with OUR SELF.
So how would it be if we started 2020 without any good resolutions at all, but with just one simple curious question: “Who is this person I am living with my whole life and yet never really got to know?”
It is just one simple question, but it could be the most powerful and transforming question we have ever asked.
Why? Because it could lead us to understand all the reasons why we still smoke or eat too much, why we don’t manage to take care of ourselves properly, why we continue to sabotage ourselves and so on.
It could be the first step to getting to know this wonderful being we are sharing our life with since the moment of conception - the first step of a magical journey together.
And at the end of 2020 we eventually might notice that we have achieved everything we wanted without one single “New Year Resolution”, by simply falling in love with ourselves.
I am wishing you from the heart a blessed 2020 in the spirit of LOVE and RECONCILIATION
